Little Monkey woke in the middle of the night. It was very dark. A horrible dream had awoken him again... There was a big bang and he awoke. He was very scared. He clung to his branch, where he usually slept, not sure what to do. His friend Bluey, a very magical butterfly, seemed to be fast asleep, wings shut in the leaf nest that Little Monkey had woven for it in the little hollow above his head.
But no! Bluey had heard Little Monkey cry out in his sleep and was very still listening. When Little Monkey whispered "Bluey!", to see if the butterfly was awake, Bluey started softly singing its magical song and started vibrating its wings faster and faster until a beautiful blue light shine all over him, and all around him!
The light glowed softly in the dark tree top and little monkey began to feel less scared…
Bluey then gently jumped on to Little Monkey's chest, right near his heart which was thumping loudly, and lay for a while with its wings open. Bluey looked up into Little Monkey's face and waited until his breathing had calmed. Little Monkey watched the blue glowing butterfly and felt much better, and said 'Yes please,' when Bluey suggested doing the special dance.
Bluey flew to the top of Little Monkey's head to start the dance, then down to his forehead and right around his eye, under his nose and mouth and then back to his chest. Then round and round his hand.
Little Monkey had closed his eyes but big tears were streaming so Bluey had to be really careful not to get wet! Little monkey cried and cried and Bluey kept dancing and dancing, singing a gentle song and shining a beautiful blue light.
Little Monkey was dreaming again and this time he remembered what the big bang had been all about, and why he had been feeling so lonely and scared: He dreamed he was playing with his monkey mummy… he was really, really small then and mostly she carried him. They were playing hide and seek when suddenly they heard strange noises.
All the monkeys were scared and started racing through the trees… there was a big bang. He was grabbed by another monkey...and he remembers travelling a very, very long way that day… but he never saw his monkey mummy again… only in his dreams.
Yet as Bluey danced the dance, over and over and over again, Little Monkey’s dream slowly started changing. Bluey’s magic was working… helping Little Monkey realise he could change his dream. It was just a dream after all... so Little Monkey began to design his dream the way he wanted it. He could see his monkey mummy clearly.. smiling at him and playing games. He could feel her holding him and could smell her lovely smell. He felt so happy and so loved. Now he knew he could have this dream any time he chose, day or night, whenever he felt lonely or sad.
Bluey kept dancing all this while and singing and weaving a magic cocoon around Little Monkey. Little monkey drifted into a very, very deep sleep. He dreamed he was all snuggled up with his monkey mummy, surrounded by a million blue butterflies dancing around them… filling the whole world and even the whole starry sky!
