Little Monkey was ill. He had not left his branch hideaway home for about two days. Occasionally another monkey would clamber up or swing over to see if he was getting better. They might bring a banana or a cracked coconut for him to drink. His head was hot and he was bothered!
His little friend Bluey the Butterfly was nearby, although usually invisible because he was magical! Bluey was singing little songs and fluttering his wings to make a slight, cooling breeze as he danced around Little Monkey’s head. Little Monkey drifted in and out of sleep. He felt like he was never going to get any better!
Each day Bluey danced and danced around Little Monkey, flying the same dance… to the top of Little Monkey’s head and then down to his eyebrow ...all along the boney ridge …to the side of his eye then underneath, then under his nose, then his chin …then on the top of his chest like a sleeping ‘8’ , then all round his hand.. to the side, the wrist and each thumb and finger nail!
In his doze Little Monkey dreamt that Bluey was a huge dragon and he was riding on the enormous, shimmery blue dragon! Over trees and lakes they flew,on and on, over the sea and far beyond to a range of snowy mountains, where they came to the dragon’s cave.
Like Bluey, the dragon was magical too. It showed Little Monkey all its treasures of crystals and glittering gold, that had been washed up on the shores from countless shipwrecks of long ago. Then that beautiful blue dragon showed Little Monkey a beautiful silver goblet with a magic, cooling, green potion, and he knew it was safe to drink...
They must have flown back, because when Little Monkey awoke the next morning, he was back on his branch….and Bluey was again a butterfly, fast asleep next to him! Little Monkey yawned and realised he felt much better. I wonder if it was Bluey’s dance or the dragon’s potion?
Maybe Bluey would dance for you whenever you are ill... You can learn the butterfly’s dance too!
